Ok so here goes, I have the Xcal2, I have a wideband, i need to connect the two and datalog AF so tom can tune my car (wooot JRSC). I have heard you can actually wire in a connection using a 9pin connector (a mini-din?) something like that. Anyone done this and give me a quick breakdown on the best way to go about this
and is datalogging pretty self-explanitory? is it just an option on the xcal2 interface to begin datalogging? this whole thing is a little bit new to me so i want to make sure i have an idea of what i am doing before i jump into this.

honestly, if you buy something that cost half as much it will work half as good and break twice as fast.....
if you do some homework you can search out a unit that someone is trying to get rid of or a slightly used unit ( the one i got looks brand new, but was used, got it for 220 shipped to canada :D)

Turtle I have the wiring diagrams to hook up the xcal 3 to an innovate wideband. Im gonna hopefully do a write up if I get it to work. The xcal 3 is a 6 pin firewire and the xcal 2 is a 9 pin firewire i belive. I think the setup would be the same cept just different color wires maybe. You could prolly cross reference it with ur aem wire colors.

Here is innovates tutorial on how to hook up xcal 2 with wideband. Should be similar i belive. http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/resources/Xcal2_tutorial.php

When I tuned with tom I just told him the A/F didnt need to datalog it....
I'll rephrase what I said.

I did datalog fuel trim, rpm, the works etc....

Then provided Tom the a/f range I saw. Ex: wot 10.0 - 11.2 (thats a wide range)

Then J&S Safeguard: 3Green 1Yellow or what ever....

Thats how we did it. Im sure he would prefer datalog A/F

make sure you get a 9-pin mini-DIN it is not the same as the more popular 9-pin's

there is a how to up on SCT's website.

and you can search google for how-to's on other forums like modularfords.com and such
