Hey guys, I couldn’t find any subject on cluster upgrade on Google so I thought writing here would help me find an answer lol I was looking to upgrade the cluster on my 2012 Focus SEL to a more recent one... I really like the information the newer cluster gives such as digital speedometer or instant mpg etc. Would it be possible to upgrade it or it has other connectors and would not be compatible ?

Good question. I''m not sure about connections or anything of that nature. I wasn't able to find anything as well. It might be worth checking Forscan forums to see if someone was able to get that option toggled on via programming.

Good question, I was wondering the same about updating the 4 inch radio display to the colour one as well

I understand that all this requires is a firmware update. Some 2012's had been updated by dealers to solve a specific problem outlined by a TSB. There is another post on this forum that surfaced recently that documents how someone did the firmware update DIY. It still doesn't seem clearly defined to me and it relates to a USA build and I'm in Canada like yourself.

You are referring to upgrading the 4" radio display whereas the OP is referring to the 4" gauge cluster display. In 2013 they added an extra view that shows a 4 panel display and a few extras like digital speedometer and instant MPG. This is what he's looking to do.

As far as the radio display goes you can upgrade to an 8" OEM display or you can go with an aftermarket display. In both instances you are changing out the bezel. There's lots of information within this forum if you search it out.

The updated 4 inch screen I was talking about is the APIM. Mine is the first style which is the very basic blue lettering similar to the ones in the new fiesta. I was wondering if the more updated colour one in the same size would be a direct plug and play?

Here in Brazil 2014, 2015, 2016 models S, SE and SE+ comes with basic blue lettering and model Titanium comes with 4" color display. Some people changed S and SE with 4" and runs perfectly. But I don´t know if here is the same hardware and module that yours. Mine SE+ comes with 4" factory (only 2017).

After all, I found a ‘15 Focus ST in a local scrapyard! All the car parts were mostly gone such as the trims, spoilers, bumper covers and ST brandings(obviously).
But luckily, the cluster was still there!!!

Then I dissembled the cluster and I found out that it was only a quick connector connected to the instrument cluster, one similar to the APIM connector with a lock but smaller.

It connected flawlessly in my car (I have a 2012 Focus HB SEL)
And worked as it should, it recognized that my car was automatic but did not update to my actual mileage.

Turns out you CAN swap the cluster without any trouble!

Awesome upgrade! I wonder if you would be able to upgrade to the ST steering wheel?

Your mileage i stored in the instrument cluster. Yes it's plug and play but you would have to get a cluster that has lower miles on it then yours and use forescan to up the miles to your miles on your car for that to be correct. Now if you have a 2012-2014 Focus and you install a 2015-2018 cluster with the digital speedo and you have a reverse sensing system, you will lose your beeping tones in the speakers as you get closer to backing up into something. Not sure why this is but it wont work. Second you can install a later model steering wheel onto your 2012-2014 car with no problems for the exception of the cruise control will not work, but everything else does. There is no way around getting the cruise to work with a 2015 and up wheel. The can bus wiring is going to different pins on the ABS module.
