Hi all!
It's been a long time since I last visited this forum.

I have this weird problem with my A/C and my Fan.

A year ago, my fan stopped working when on #1 or #2 speed, but was working on speed #3 and #4.
What's interesting is that my A/C on the other hand seemed to be working when the fan was on #1 and #2 (except that you didn't feel anything due to the fan not working), but wasn't working when the fan was working (on #3 and #4).
You're following me?

- Fan working = A/C not working
- Fan not working = A/C working
(but you didn't feel anything because the fan wasn't working :p)

The only way I can use the A/C is if I set it on the windshield.

So it's an inter-connected problem...

And a day ago, the fan stopped working even on speed #3!
So I have only #4 speed working, but you can't hear anything else when it's on!

Any ideas what could cause this weird behavior??

I have a 2002 Focus ZX5, 4 cyl. 2.0L Zetec 130 hp.

Thanks!

Oddly enough, I'm gonna say it's two unrelated problems, and I only have a solid explanation for one of them. In many cars, in the blower motor, there's a resistor block. Its job is to reduce the power coming in, to create lower fan speeds than the full power input would. In doing so, they generate heat, and eventually the small coils in them that are the resistors can burn out. The more energy needing to be used, the more heat generated, so the lowest speeds would burn out first. This is not specific to Focii, but is more a general issue with lots of cars. The A/C issue, I'm not so hot on.
