First.. it'd be nice if the moderators here at FocusFanatics would create a CircleTrack sub-forum under the racing heading..

Secondly.. In the process of preparing our car for the big March 29th race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis.

FWD Compacts on the nearly 3/4 mile long NASCAR track, Lucas Oil Raceway (link to video of last years race below).

Last year.. there was only one Ford in the main event.. 33 cars started.. one Ford. And it was a heavily modified Escort.

We at Twisted Focus Racing aim to change that this year.

We purchased a former SCCA race car (photo below), which we got as a rolling shell only.. cage and body.. no suspension, no motor, no transmission.

We have 4 weeks to build this car into a top quality circle track car.. so I'm turning to the folks here at FJ & FF to give us their thoughts and ideas so we can move as quickly as possible.

My first thought.. I want to put a 2.5L duratec in this this, mated up to a MTX-75 with a close ratio gear set, adjustable coil overs. Motor needs a good build, doesn't have to be extreme. I need about 220HP.. I could get away with 200, but if I could get 250HP and stay in the same price range.. I'd do it. Lightweight Flywheel. Cams. A great tune. I want the smallest brakes I can get on it. I need to purchase/make some custom RF control arms to get the 10 degrees of camber needed.

This is what I'm thinking.. I'd like to know what you think. If you road race, drag race or circle track race and have thoughts on making power, making car handle, making car turn.. I'd like your input.

I run a 2002 Focus on a 1/3 mile oval here in Canada. However, we are basically a stock series so I don't have many mods done. I run a ZETEC engine and I was bouncing that motor off the rev limiter at 7000 RPM's all season long without any complaints from it. I wish you luck in getting it together in time and Good Luck in the race !!

I'm running 205 60 16 tires in 2nd gear. I've tried running 15 inch tires and going up to third gear and it was no good. So I went with 14 inch tires in 3rd and in practice it felt great. In my first heat race with the 14's I went from pole to almost last. So I went back to my 16's and won the next heat. With the 14's there is not enough rev's to get me thru the corners. Changing gears twice a lap is not an option as the lap times would suffer and most of our passing is done in the corners. The last mod I did was just before the final race last year where I (finally) removed the catalytic converter and put in a straight pipe. It seemed to help with more power, but now I was hitting the rev limiter even sooner. So I'd like to try the 14's again now with the cat removed. I'll have to wait until Spring practice to try that out. Do you have any other suggestions on how to change my final drive ??

Changing the ring and pinion gear in an MTX 75 it's fairly easy. Gear ratios to choose from 341 356 381 406.

Have you been racing a focus? I ended up sticking to dirt last year. There is also the Midwest Compact Touring Series which used to be the VCTS north. They will have 2 races in Wisconsin and one at Illiana this year.
