Hey guys im new here. Asked this over on FJ but no real answere. My temp gauge wasnt reading so i replaced the CHT sensor since i get -40 reading while in test mode. Im still not getting a reading and it still says -40 so i replaced it with another one and ive still got the same reading with the guage never moving. What else should i check? This is stopping me from getting tuned all the way since the car is stuck in warm up mode.

Theres 2 Sensors I beleive on a focus for Engine temp

one is strictly for the cluster and the other is the sensor is strictly for the computer :/ now if I can just remember which is which and there locations

P.S. be thankful its not reading 247 degrees in test mode like mine heheheh (I think my engine overheated)

We just covered an issue like this in my auto tech class.

I'll have to read through something but this can happen pretty easy.

When it's messed up it will read either 247-250 or soemthing or negative 40. Simple as that.

I'll look and see what i can find though.

so where is the sensor loacted that you changed?

behind the alternator?

yes the one right next to the alt. under cyl 1

Yeah, talked with my teacher and the reason it would be doing the -40 is because you would have an open going to the Coolant temperature switch.

Ok update. ive got it fixed but my temp guage still isnt working. The pcm is reading the cht thou. so is there another sensor that controls just the cluster?
