well i had the radio down and windows up and i noticed a sound i would start from a start after just starting the car and i would accelerate to 3000 rpm or so and push the clutch in and as i would let it out when it reengaged there was a little chirp sound kinda like a squeel from a belt maybe very hard to describe just was very quiet but after a minute the sound went away got out of the car and drove around again 20 minutes later did it for the first few minutes then went away any ideas?? the belt is still the one from when i bought it brand new and the car is a 04 zx3 with 63k miles on it. and of course manual transmission. anyone else have this problem or any ideas what it is>> i am stumped!![werd]

65K on the odometer.

Start with the accessory belt. It needs to be changed anyway with that mileage.

If the chirp persists, then move on into further diagnosis. Start small. [thumb]

well i did figure out that i could replicate the sound its when i am in 2nd gear and run up to 3k rpm and then shift very quickly kinda like racing where you shift very quick and abruptly you here the little chirp or squeel not sure how to describe it. does this point it towards the belt more or does someonehave a hypothesis?

Could be a lot of things... I would check belts first.

Coul be something as simple as a loose/worn engine mount, causing the engine to shift slightly when under high load is totally possible. To check your mounts put the park brake on and try to move forward and back (from a stop obviously) and have a buddy see how much your engine is moving.

Can you tell if the sound is coming from the engine bay? I had a same little problem with a mystery squeak. I ended up tracing the noise back to the clutch pedal assembly up underneath the steering column. The spring at the top of the clutch pedal wore the grease down where the cables attach and so did the spring itself. It just needed a fresh lubing. No more squeaks when shifting.

i will do the engine bay test to see if it moves i am getting a new belt put on today will let you know if that works. The sound to me sounds like it is coming from the engine bay the sound is somewhat faint but it sounds like a belt chirping. Also i read some where about someone have a similiar problem and it being a exhaust bracket. But since i need to replace the belt anyway ill start there. but good ideas thank you if anyone has more keep them coming i will post the results of the belt of so that hopefully it will help one of you one day.
