I have been driving my late husband Brett's car for about 18 mo. 32k mi. My first car from this century. Last month the check engine light came on. I'd never seen one before.

Gascap tightening worked. Later in the week, light's back. Auto-zone read the code as clogged oxygen sensor. Next day, light off. Week later, on. Stayed lit a few wks.

Then it went off and stayed that way, for now. Is it the idiot light, or is something wrong? Can they tell what's wrong if the light's off?

I'm not clueless--like I can clean & gap plugs--but modern techno stuff I dunno.
Thanks, Claudia

welcome to the site claudia[welcome] you said that auto zone read a bad o2 sensor....did you have it replaced??cause if not that is your culprit...i believe the dealership can pick up problems on the diagnostic computer even if the light is not on......

p.s--what was brett's screename on here?

Just "Brett" I think. Yeah, I guess I should take it, since he got the extended warranty. Maybe it's their problem. Dealerships give me attitude. Not good one.
