I am at my wits end with this thing. I have a 2001 focus SE ZETEC. After driving about 150 miles over a couple weeks time, the alternator will quit charging. I replaced the alternator with a 170 amp unit, it looked identical to the old one, just pumps more juice.

The new alternator is fine. I have upgraded the charging cable and ground cables, battery is new. I suspect its something in the logic of the ECU but don't know how to proceed. But like clockwork, every 150 miles it goes berserk. I have to fiddle around with battery chargers charging with the engine running, then it usually starts charging on its own.....for about another 150 miles, then it starts all over again.

Hope this makes sense. I could use some suggestions. Thanks in advance,
