This should be a really easy swap. I got the rubber cap off and the plug unpluged. Have a hard time seeing directly into the hole. How do I get the bulb out? I can pull on it and if feels like I could yank it out but dont want to damage the old bulb. Am I missing something?

Theres a little metal clip that is on a hinge that goes over the bulb. I believe the release is at the top, you just pop that off and the bulb comes right out.

^^^that's not how my '06 is held on. After you pull the rubber cover, there's a plastic ring around the socket. Turn it counter-clockwise to loosen it. Then the socket pulls out. No springs or clips involved....

My wifes is an 06. The bulbs are different. 06 if a 9007 series and my 04 Focus is a 9003 series. They look different. I got one out. I'll post a pic for future reference. Hope it goes back in that easy.

Yeah you have to release that little clip. It's hard to see in there so i actually got a little mirror to look inside and it seemed to help a lot. Once you get the first one the second is so much easier.

Finally got the bulbs in. Yes, the spring release is at the very top. First
- Pull the rubber cover off the back of the headlight. Pops off like cover of a tupperware bowl.

- Pull the plug connector off the back of the bulb.

- The spring pivots/connects at the bottom and releases at the top. Push IN at the top of the spring and then to the SIDE and release.

- The bulb has three tabs....so just line up the tab to install. Just reverse the procedures.

This was a simple install. I knew there was a spring but it was hard to look directly into the back of the headlight since there is stuff in the way and my head it too big. If I had my camera this would be much easier to explain. This has probably been explained and re-explained many times but once more cant hurt.

FYI. This is for the 9003 series bulb. Newer Foci have the 9007 series. They are pushed in and twisted in place to secure.

One more thing I noticed. Just bulbs I removed had melted the top of the headlight enclosure. The plastic melted and dripped onto the bulb. The bulbs still work....just wanted to upgrade to the brighter Sylvania Ultra.....hope it wont melt it further. Will do a search on this..... if I dont find it ....i'll submit a new post.
