I have a '54 reg Zetec (UK, so this means back end of 2004). I bought it the other day and it came fitted with a Ford cassette player. I am not sure why, but the steering wheel controls do not work with it. I imagine it is the dealer that changed it from a CD player or something like that and did a bit of a bodge job and didn't wire it up correctly.

Anyway, I would like to put in my old CD player (it is a Blaupunkt, not sure what model, will check if it is important) in there instead. I have worked out which fascia I need, etc. I was wondering if it is possible to hook up a non-Ford radio to the steering wheel controls?

Hope someone can let me know if it is possible or not.

Thanks for the reply. I have been looking at those, but am not sure which one to get or whether they would even work with my particular head unit. It doesn't really seem worth it to spend so much money to get the steering wheel controls to work either!

Another thing I noticed is that they do not seem to be on sale in the UK (even on ebay), so I am wondering if they are even compatible with the UK model...

Thanks anyway, but I think I'll just live without steering wheel controls :(

Edit: I just found this one

Now I just need to find out if it will work with my radio before spending £40!

I'm in England and I found the ones on car audio direct. They have them on caraudiosecurity.com as well. They make them for my alpine too but I didn't think it was worth spending the money, I dont miss my steering column controls. Where are you in the UK? I've got my old factory cd head unit that worked with my steering column remote and if you can be bothered to pick it up you can have it for a fiver (buy myself a couple of beers).
