My 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 has been giving transmission issues lately that have apparently gotten worse. At first it was whenever the car started cold, the trans would have a bit of delay switching between gears but it usually got better as the car warmed up.

All of this was okay until yesterday. While driving on the highway, my car immediately stopped accelerating, was making a weird noise, and would require high revs to accelerate. If I could put it into words, when reaching a certain speed (50mph-70mph) the car immediately shifts into like 3rd-4th gear and is stuck at it. It then starts making this muffled noise like the gear slipped out of a pulley system or something. While in this state, my car loses power and cannot go ANY faster and just slows down. I don't get any lights and I have no codes in the system. None of this happens at low speeds but I'm already afraid of driving it anywhere. I'm planning on taking it to the mechanic tomorrow, but as I do that, has anyone here experienced the same issue?

Mileage? And the last time fluid was changed?

That trans can wear like lightning when the fluid does not get changed every 30K miles. The driver side end cover wears to make bad hydraulic leaks that can act just like yours.
78k. I did a Trans fluid change like last month when it was 77k

After rereading the post it may be possible. Your description was actually wide open compared to most and I took the words 'immediately shifts into like 3rd-4th gear' for what they are instead of grasping you likely forced a downshift by getting into throttle deeper trying to get the car to go faster.

I am likely wrong, your guy may be dead on. I have transmission on the brain lately, a lot of posts on them.

Your mileage is as well too low to already have trans wear of the type I proposed.
I get that. Even he said the same thing. The car was actually 57k when I got it, HOWEVER, apparently the car was sitting dormant for about 2 years so that may have something to do with it.

Unfortunately I brought it to a muffler shop and they said the catalytic converter seems fine so yikes I'm at a loss...
