Hello again. So recently 300miles ago I changed timing belt all associated pulleys and water pump. I used the gates kit everything is fine but i keep stumbling on threads here, Facebook ect saying the gates tensioner is not rated at the right lbs of pressure (I've also seen a similar amount of threads saying the gates kit is fine ect). So I am wondering can I replace just the tensioner with an oem Ford one without redoing the entire process!? I saw a thread asking a similar question however that devolved into a pissing match over who knows more lol. Thank u all for your time. Th

I also forgot to mention that the gates tensioner (everything is timed correctly btw no cel) bar has moved. Thx again

Quite freaking out, the wrong engine to do that with. If the belt is running true and straight, there are no codes, and the job seems to be running fine then leave it alone. Most that post on facebook never get that far successfully.

Also, you FORGET where the tensioner marker is once it is set, it WILL change due to normal breakin of the belt. All Ford paperwork says the mark is only valid at the FIRST INSTALL, because it sets to a new unused belt that has not been run before, you lose that with 10 minutes of running and CANNOT HIT IT AGAIN with a USED belt. When the new belt stretches in the first 10 minutes it is EXPECTED to move the tensioner marker. If you retension a used belt with another tensioner then the used belt is overtight and how they begin to drift on the pulleys to edgeride and then tear up.

The engine bends valves way too easy to go around witlessly retiming it over and over.

I run the exact same Gates tensioner on Contour VCT and never a problem yet except with official FORD idler that came apart before 50K miles, the plastic fell off of the bearing. Just like with the serp belt tensioners, the Ford part is the by far the crappiest one, the only one I've had to come apart.

My Gates tensioner has done fine, belt change was 23k miles ago. I think what happens is most people buy the generic parts store kit, then install it wrong and blame it on the part. Then if they decide to rebuild their engine then never use anything but Ford again, but this time they know how to install it right so it doesn't fail on them.
