what gains would there be from putting in adjustable cam gears on an otherwise stock engine (apart from intake)? or should i get new cam shafts as well? if i get some i will most likely tune them using the butt dyno. any thoughts?
You need to post this on the duratec threads since you have a 05'. I don't know how well the duratec responds to cam gears but the zetec loves it. Has for you butt dyno I would'nt. my was broken or calibrated wrong when I got my cam gears lol.
oh no no i got confused. it was built in 04 with the zetec engine but the car was 1st registered in 05. it looks like your one (but mines red so it's obviously faster).
i don't have cam gear and i bet there is more people out there that can help you better then me, but i believe that cam gear will improve the Tq. through out the rpm ranges... where there wasn't tq feeling there, there would be after.
i was talking to one of the mechanics i know and he said there is a diffrnece power wise when it comes to cam gears, im putting on aem ones on my zetec with stock cam shafts, i could try guessing hp wise but i don't want to be wrong lol all i know is it does make a diffrence.
You may gain a few ponies, but not much, if the cams are already aligned right for max power, then doing the cam gears won't do you anything, on a stock motor, i don't think your butt dyno will be able to tell!!
fair enough ^^^. i think i may be one of the lucky ones who got good timing from the factory. i test drove a few foci before i bought mine and i was sure this one felt stronger than the others even though they were all stock.
funny that you bring that up i have stage 2 comp cams and adjustable cam gears and i never adjusted the they are dead nuts 0 degrees i should play with mine and let u know =) i have the cfm cam gears
cam gears can make a difference, but they WILL require dyno tuning to be effective. and that is not cheap. on an otherwise stock engine, you would probably only get about 5whp from the gears.
