Has anyone had problems with the auto belt tensioner. I replaced the belt and original manual tensioner with new Ford parts (including the automatic tensioner) and double checked the timing but within seconds of running the engine a rattle started which quickly got worse so I stopped the engine - quick! [mad]

I re checked the timing and the belt had jumped 2 teeth.

Not trusting the auto tensioner ( which moved a lot while the engine was running ) I re used the original manual tensioner. Fortunately none of the valves were bent _ my lucky day!

These auto tensioners must be fitted every day so where am I going wrong?[dunno]
