Hello all, great forum. Question: Just got a 2012 Focus SEL. Took delivery Sept. 16. I looked in the glove box and their is no cabin air filter. Shouldn't there be one? The slot is empty, what gives? Thanks [ohcrap]

Are you talking about the slot on the top 1/4 of the glove compartment?

I'm pretty sure that is there to hold the manual, not for the air filter. I'm sure the air filter is a bit harder to get to.

+1... if so this might alleviate some of the "humid" air people are talking about.

can anyone confirm that this is actually left out on the 2012's?
Wait - it has a slot, but no filter? [confused] I was under the impression I had clean air coming into my car...

The owner's manual says:

CABIN AIR FILTER

Your cabin air filter is located in the passenger foot well area. The
cabin air filter element is designed to reduce the concentration of
airborne particles such as dust, spores and pollen in the air being
supplied to the interior of the vehicle. The presence of a particulate filter
element provides the following benefits:

• Improves your driving comfort by reducing particle concentration.
• Improves the interior compartment cleanliness.
• Protects the climate control components from particle deposits.

Note: A cabin air filter must be installed at all times to prevent foreign
objects from entering the system. Running the system without a filter in
place could result in degradation or damage to the system.

The photos are not of a US 2012 Focus, the windshield wipers are in the wrong place. This may be misinformation.

2012's with missing/not installed cabin air filters?
No. Of course not.

The link posted by the OP contains *obvious* misinformation.

Most new cars today have the option of having it and you can install the filter if the box is there. I did with my 2010 focus.

Mystery solved then. Found it. The first printing manual doesn't list it in the index. No matter, Thank you all for the help.
