Have an 03 zx5 zetec automatic. Just recently discovered that my rear brake lights in the taillights come on as soon as shift out of park including neutral. BUT the third brake light only comes on when I touch the brake pedal as it should. The turn signal function still works as well. They are normal stock bulbs and I haven't touched any wiring. Car was inspected a couple months ago and they didn't do it then. If it hadn't been for a friend behind me I would not have known. Have No clue why it's doing only when shifting out of park. Was wondering if anyone else has come across this issue. Thanks.

Check the wiring harness in the liftgate. Black rubber boot...peel it back and find the wire/s with the broken or chafed insulation. Cover each with electrical tape. Try your lights again.

If any are broken through, they'll need a splice/solder/heat shrink treatment.
