Looking for any quick tips as to what might be going on with my brakes, they've been like this since I got the car a year ago. It's a 2004 SVT focus with 120k miles or so, never had a problem with the brakes and I've had the wheels off, pads are thick like maybe 25% worn down from new and the rotors are fine. I kind of suspect the noise is a reflection of the previous owner's choice of pads or something, but I'd rather be prepared for questions from potential buyers.
Or there might be some sort of mis-installation or missing hardware, not familiar specifically with this installation, but there is a gap between the caliper and brackets that looks like maybe some sort of clip ordinarily goes there.
I bought a new set of organic pads to put on if I had the time, at least for diagnostic purposes, but I don't think there's going to be time before Labor Day.
