hey everyone, i rmember when iwas inthe market on getting new brake fluid there was 2 kind of D.O.T 4 fluid i was looking into, 1 was the blue fluid
(the 1 that isn't allow in flordia) and the motorcraft Stuff ( GOLD ) .

well im lookin for that motor craft 1 now. since my my master cylinder is going, im gunna change the fluid as wel ( well i got to ) along with my rear steel brake lines.



so if someone can get me that part # on that motor craft GOLD brake fluid, please help me out!

The only Motorcraft brake fluid I have seen is DOT 3:

Ford has a premium Gold colored coolant, but I have not heard of any gold brake fluid.

Personally, I just use a name brand synthetic DOT 4 fluid myself, e.g.,

my next question then, if im already using DOT 4 fluid, do i got to use dot 4 all together now, or can i down it to dot 3 on changing out the fluid??

You can "down it" to DOT 3 with no problems... DOT 3 and DOT 4 are completely compatible.

I would note that there are some comments around the net that the Motorcraft DOT 3 stuff is very good, perhaps as good or better than DOT 4 if you check the specs. No personal experience, just noting the comments if you want to search the web.

You should only be using DOT 3 fluid as that is what is stated in your owners manual:

Use only brake fluids certified to meet Ford specifications. Refer to Lubricant specifications in this chapter. Use only DOT 3 brake fluid from a sealed container. Ref. page 305

Completely untrue. DOT 4 fluid can be used in EVERY DOT 3 application.

EVERY DOT 4 fluid meets DOT 3 specifications, i.e., every bottle of DOT 4 brake fluid could be relabeled as DOT 3 if the manufacturer wanted to. Some manufacturers sort of do this, labeling their product DOT 3/4.
