Alright, so here's my dilemma.

I have an FSWerks CAI, I have not done the snorkel delete as of yet but it is on the to do list. I'm in FL and it's brutal outside. Currently my intake air temperature fluctuates between 5-7 degrees higher than ambien at speed. Even though that bit of information is irrelevant to a point. (Curious is if it's any different from stock airbox)

So I am looking for a Big Mouth / Ram Air Intake for my 2014 SE. I've heard mixed things about the Vellossa Tech big mouth intake. It fits, it doesn't fit, you need to trim the bumper or the intake. bla bla bla. I haven't really seen any information or pictures regarding this. So after looking around, I found out Ford racing has a snorkel that may fit. Again, will it fit or do I have to do some trimming?

The Ford racing version fits but touches from what I've heard. The bigger mouth by velossa tech won't fit the nose of the 12-14 N/A without serious modification.

I wonder if I buy the big mouth and trim some of the edge off I could make it fit. I have no issue trimming the plastic lip in certain areas.

That's a lot of money to spend on an item to cut into it to make work lol. Won't say don't try it but I don't know how much you'd have to cut off. You might find that you'd have to cut off the whole "bigger" part lol.

Yea I'm probably better off going with the Ford racing snorkel but it's not as big as the vellossa one. I may go with the non big mouth version as it still bigger than the Ford racing one

Hey I think you've heard this before, but I am about to make a post on the B.S.T section about a group run for people to purchase my custom air ram snorkel. It is made specifically to fit on the 2012-2014 models. Here is a prototype picture album of the part I made:2012 SE/SEL Air Ram Installed - Album on Imgur

I should have a post up by next weekend. If you are interested send me a PM because I can only sell 50 of these for this first run. I would be happy to save a you a spot.

That looks great. If you would put me down for one of those. The ford racing one is much smaller on the intake than this one. Definitely worth it. Whats the price for one of these?

As an update I found just the Ford Racing Snorkel and the non big mouth velossa tech snorkel.

Both of which are similarly priced. I am looking for one that has the bigger intake. Of course it's hard to tell with pictures that have no measurements. But It looks to me the Velossa tech one has a much larger mouth. Even without the flared lip.

Those are outrageous prices for a piece of plastic. I would look into the Newmission mod, takes some ideas from that, hit up Home Depot, and create something yourself that works. No one will see it and it's tucked under the shroud. Maybe pick up the cheap ST velocity stack for the attachment point and then use a sealant/adhesives to connect your own "reasonably priced piece". I believe the ST one is $7 on eBay http://m.ebay.com/itm/252012409152?_mwBanner=1
I'm sure ANYTHING you come up with is going to yield within 1 hp of whatever gains those units will give you.

Edit*- Some guy did this on the st forum. Now I could see having a visual problem with it with their grill being more transparent but our grill masks EVERYTHING.

Or you could go real cheap and ghetto lol. I would draw the line in the sand before this hahaha

The same can be said for the rain guards, mud flaps, bug deflectors. If that were the case everyone would be driving around with diy plywood cut pieces. As a consumer, I don't have time to dilly dally with research and development BS. Yes it may be a piece of plastic, but it was already designed and tested. I know vellossa tech actually provided charts and proof that it does benefit the car.

On a side note. Have you been to the drag races where they have this massive ram air intake. I know it's not irrelevant but even the NA cars need as much air as possible to surpass the 200mph mark.

But enough with my rant lol. What is this "new mission mod"?

Suite yourself man. I was just trying to save you $120. Again, NO ONE will ever see this. All the cited examples you gave were visual diy mods. I may try it but don't think it would help much due to Steeda intakes open design. It can be done for probably less than $20.

My comment on the intake opening in the frame.. The opening is the same for the ST. Which makes 252hp.
The turbo sucks enough air through the current opening without anything other than a small velocity stack, which does not even USE the whole engine bay front frame opening. (it is blocked off at the right side, about 15% is blocked off)

So exactly what engine mods is the op making that a big ol' ram air thingie would have ANY meaningful use???

I suggest to the op skip the ridiculous ram air idea. Take off the stock snorkle under the front bumper. and leave the ram air to the fantasy realm.

Save your $100 for something that might be worth it.

But MOAR AIR = MOAR POWA saw it on TV. [cool] I mean, it might help a bit but nothing thats going to make a huge difference..with people with stick to proven power adders.. intake, header, exhaust, tuning, cams, intake manifold (usually lmao), turbo kit.

I installed the Ford Racing ST snorkel to keep the air box temps as low as possible. I have tested the temp in the air box and it's at the outside ambient air temp almost all of the time. It evens does this in stop and go driving and at the slower speeds of city driving.
So I am satisfied with these results and if I get any increased air flow, that's just a bonus![:)]

I found the 3d file floating around for the ford racing version of this and modified it on my pc to have the larger mouth and 3d printed it. I'm sure you could shorten the length of the tube with even the most basic modeling skills and then have it 3d printed pretty cheap.
