You should be more concerned bout photo enforced intersections, police suvs with camaras to monitor speed, and the Department of Transportations newest weapon, vans with camaras mounted on top that can scan plates driving down the street.tdkaye1 said:

Yeah, I know the lead foot gets me into trouble, but with the throttle response and well, the urge to go faster, all the damn 35mph zones around here piss me off. Even at 50mph, i'm still sitting in 3rd, with all that temptation that is 4th and 5th. Plus, after I start adding HP, it'll be all the more fun. [thumb]

Radar detector certainly isnt a shield from the fuzz, but mine have saved me at least a half dozen times. Use it as a tool, along with your brain and you should be alot better off. Lets face it, if a cop sees you bustin along at 60 in a 25, hes gonna get you one way or another.
But in terms of whats good. Valentine V1 and Escort Passport 8500 X50 are always fighting for the #1 and #2 spots depending on which report you read. I use an 8500 X50 mainly because it cost me less than half what the V1 cost. Ive read also that the V1 design hasnt changed in years, this is just hearsay tho.

My dad has this in his mistang, and has gotten 2 speeding tickets since 2003....one he was paced from his blind spot at night, and the other when he was in Virginia and it was off.....per the law in that state.......

i dont have a radar detector i use a C.B. and i know where they are before i get there and where the road blocks are and deer and what the bears are pulling over big trucks and 4 wheelers.... sorry that is ******* for ...deer and if the cops are pulling over cars or semi's i also know what way there are looking as well as when there is a lane closed ahead or not and yes the garbage we dont care about too weigh stations how to cheat a log book ect
and what is more funny than listening to a red neck try to cut a deal with a hooker and later on to hear the hooker say hes a guy ( a side show i tell ya and we all like a good side show now and then dont we ) something bell and valentine just cant do
and it was $70 for the cb and i use a old antena my dad bought before i was born but there i a part called a secreaty sam that will use ur radio antena instead of a big aftermarket dont go far but semi's arent too far away on the interstate if you do this then you will have to count on local people in town to get you buy anything in city limits

Do not buy a cobra radar detector, they leak emissions and cause other units to false.
In a nut shell if you can afford the money go with the V1 I know it is a LOT of money but in the long run it is cheaper than a ticket and higher insurance.
If not take a look at the BEl 895 from Radio Shack, this thing is the best unit you can buy for $200 it uses the Bel RX65 board and chip and will cost you a lot less than buying a Bel RX65 detector (over $300).
If you want a low end unit that will do the job but may just give you enough warning then look at the Whistler XTR-560. It is a good unit for the price (under $150) and for most casual speeders will do the job.
Something else to consider in Illinois they use a lot of Laser guns and most radar detectors are not going to give you enough warning.
I would suggest you look at a laser jammer from Blinder.
Stay away from the JUNK Rocky Mountain units they do NOT work.
As far as radar detectors in Illinois they are NOT illeagal.
ONLY radar Jammers are illeagal in all states.
LASER Jammers are NOT illeagal either, laser is controlled by the FDA where radar is controlled by the FCC.

i have the sensoro traveler 2 talking radar detector...don't know if it's the best but it does it's job
Yeah, ended up getting a Whistler 1735 (think that's the number). Got everything pretty much except the Spectre invisibility, which is the newest detector detector out there. Can't complain, cost me 80 bucks and works nicely. Oh, and the woman's voice on there is so niiiice.
