Alright, so I bought my Focus about 4 days ago, and I figured I should start my own thread for this since the car will be worked on a good bit in the next year or so.

To start off with, it's a 2005 ZX3 focus in Pitch Black, base model.

Tomorrow I'm heading to San Antonio (from Austin) to pick up a set of black 16 inch SVT wheels off of an SVT Contour. I'm stoked because I got a great deal on them

The car currently has a cracked windshield, and that will be replaced too, but not 'till next week. I'm going to try to post some pictures on Wednesday to show the before and after effects of the wheels.

The following step will be to get a tachometer, one that goes up to 10,000. The plan is to eventually take off the rev limiter and let her go up to about 8,500, possibly up to 9,000, so I figured if I'm going to get a tach, just go for the one that'll fit the bill right?

Anyway, these are the wheels:

Anyone know how much they weigh by chance? I'm getting such a good deal on them it's not too important at this point, but I've heard they're very lightweight.

very nice. I dunno why you want your revlimiter to go to 8.5k rpm... we get our best shift at 6200 rpm. If you really wanna take off the limiter, get an Xcal, and I dont think that will take it off, just raise it.

those rim are gonna look sweet!

i would leave the rev limiter where its at, its there for a reason, you can get the xcal like captcurt said and raise it, but 8.5K is gonna kill your internals and take them to the break point.

well the plan for the high rev limit will involve changing out some of the internals. I'm a fan of the rs200, so i'm curious to see what it takes to get a motor to rev that high, i figure it'd be a lot easier to hit even the 8,000 mark with a naturally aspirated engine. the s2000 hits 9,000 and it's also a 2 liter, so i'm thinking there's got to be a way to make it happen. I know it'll cost a good bit, but i like to set high goals. I'm a fan of going slightly different routes to get power.

in the end of course it comes down to budget, but I like to start with high hopes. hahaha. in the end i'll probably be sitting on about 170 hp and i'll be fine with that, and the engine will be reving a lot lower than 8.5 i'm sure

buy and S2k if you want to rev that High. I dont recomend you do this with a Foci.
I have a lot of friends who race with Type-R's and S2k's and trust me they dont make it rev more than 8500-8700. Basically you'll need new cams, springs, retainers, etc. And matching the cams with the springs to make sure they'll last is a pretty tough job when you use aftermaket parts. A lot of people that race with us went back to OEM because they blowed their engine! Now I don't see the use of reving that high, when you check dynos of heavy moded foci's the bend on the sheet, starts going down a lot earlier than that, so you'd basically pre-use your engine for no reason!

Here's an exemple :

well that definitely changes my outlook on what to do to the car a bit. no worries though, those were all long term plans, so the basics are still going to be happening. I'm going to try to stick to NA, but we'll see what happens in the end. anyway, i'm off to lunch, so hopefully some pictures will be up soon.

ok guys sorry it took me so long, here is the car as it is right now. She's a little dirty thanks to a drive out to Houston and back, but she's in pretty good shape overall. The hubcaps were stolen, so says the previous owner, but that won't be a problem after this evening:

There ya go. I'll see about getting the rims on there with photoshop in a bit... if i have time, I am still at work and all...

I remember seeing a company that revs Duras that high, although everything has been replaced on the engine, including swapping the intake mani out for ITB's. Im pretty sure their top motor put out around 300bhp and was meant to go in a 7. so... its possible, just extremely expensive and unheard of on this side of the pond.

good luck mang, mod the hell out of it

I think they may have been black from the factory. I got them on kind of late last night, and they look 100x better than I thought they would. Again, I'll post pictures on my lunch break. It's a busy day, so I don't know when that'll be.

ok, the wheels are on and here are the pictures!

and this is just to show the gas mileage I got from San Antonio to Austin TX. I checked my speedo with the speed from my roommate's GPS, and the speedometer is almost dead on now.

85 miles on less than 1/4 tank! and that includes some hard driving when I got into town!

The car feels completely different with these wheels. It accelerates faster, and definitely brakes TONS better. The biggest thing I noticed is that there's a lot more torque steer, and i have to watch my foot a little bit accelerating because it's a lot easier to spin those lightweight rims. lateral grip is amazing, I have yet to squeal the tires at all... but then again I haven't really gotten to drive THAT hard yet.

the tires are BF-Goodrich Traction T/As with about 85% of tread left. They are 225/50/16
