i'm getting bad alternator whine coming from my subwoofer only (stock SVT sub and amp).

i have an aftermarket head unit, with the sub wiring spliced in. if i unplug the rca sub out from the HU, i get a lot of buzzing from the sub. with it connected, the noise decreases, but then varies with the engine rpms.

i'm guessing i have a grounding issue. I've never modified any wiring in the car, other than connecting the aftermarket head unit.

any suggestions?

yup, check the ground. Did you clean the paint from the chassis with a dremal? Also, try different RCA cables. Sometimes they pick up noise.

my old stereo did this and i just got a new one. my old one was a pioneer and some pioneers have this problem when you plug in the rca cables. if you plug the rca wires in wrong or something it blows a fuse inside the cd player.
