It's been happening to me lately and I don't know why I will just be driving along normally next thing you know It will just drop to zero and last night my odometer and trip went blank with lines across the display, and the only other way I will be able to read my speed is with my navigation and I don't want relay on it. Anyways anyone have any input on what to do about this headache?

mines been doing this for a few years. it works, but at time it either won't move at all, or sometimes it even jumps around. When it jumps the gas needle and temp usually jump too).Somebody told me wires just might be loose. But hey, it only happens from time to time, not constant. Also more often during winter months.

Yup, I actually just fixed this problem about a month ago. The vehicle speed sensor is going bad (as already stated). You can drive it as is, but it can be rather dangerous (and illegal) without a working speedometer. Go buy one from a dealership (not sure if autoparts stores will carry this), and replace it. It's located on the tranny on the side closest to the exhaust. You gotta really get under there to see, but once you find it, it's a real easy swap. It's only held in place by one screw and a wiring harness clipped to it.

actually take the cluster out and replug it back in.. dash's across the Odo mean the Cluster has partially lost connection to the cars computer.. it also happens when the power to the computer is also severed

Please keep in mind when removing the focus cluster's harness pull the black/grey tab up thats actually a mechanical retainer not a clip which means as soon as its lifted it will pull the clusters plug out and vise versa.. mine also had that problem but I found out that the vibrations wore down the one side of the lifters tooth I replaced the tab from another harness and plugged it in and never had a problem again
