Definitely a bit far out to know, though I ultimately would like to have a rather well-known RS. How I get to that point, Idk yet for sure, though I do have some ideas and a few friends.



Yeah, I forgot that there are Windows emulators. Thanks for reminding me; I'll definitely look into them.

As for tuning, that's really going to depend on how much I learn on these platforms along with whatever limitations there are or will be on the RS. I intend on pushing it to my limits, but my limits now are completely different than what my limits will be then, and realistically speaking they could both still be under the limits of the platform.

I'm mostly interested in testing and development, so I'll probably stick with just E85 and tuning until I reach a part limitation before making hard-part changes and working one step at a time.

Of course, I also said I was going to wait until 15k miles before doing part changes to the FiST/FoST so....
Realistically we're still talking a year out on the RS so plenty of time to get intimate with the platform.

I don't know if you've considered these guys and their product Ford Focus RS ? Syvecs

I haven't, but the ATR software is pretty powerful so I doubt that it will hold me back in any way-at least for the novice level that I'm starting at. And realistically speaking I can't say that I fully know that my attention span will fully support tuning, I'm going to have to see how well it piques my interest.

Duane - your attention to detail & testing to see real results are a good start towards tuning.

Bet you'll find it interesting enough to hold your attention for a while.

I have a feeling that it will, but there have been more times than I can remember where I decided to try something that ultimately I didn't have enough interest to hold my attention long enough. On the bright side, the cost is less than that of an intake, so even if it doesn't hold my interest it won't be a huge loss.

The FiST put down 180whp/228wtq. It has the OEM intake, Cobb FMIC, charge pipes, downpipe and CBE.

The FoST put down 227whp/291wtq. It has the cp-e intake, Cobb FMIC and charge pipes, MBRP catless downpipe and CBE.

Both cars are tuned by Freektune for these pulls and it was done on a Mustang dyno. I was hoping to see better, but I'm not going to complain or make excuses-I just have to do better next time.

Or get bigger turbos...

yeah I would have thought with the mods you had that the numbers would have been a little higher but screw it. It's all about how they drive anyway, you didn't get them to be dyno queens. So the FiST claims 197ish crank horsepower, do you have any idea what the average WHP is for those. I would have figured 180ish would have been the WHP and with the mods you listed you would have been over 200 at the wheels in the FiST. The FoST doesn't surprise me as much. I've seen a lot of youtube videos with those modded and not putting a ton at the wheels hp wise but putting a lot of wheel tq down. I know the youtube channel "the smoking tire" has a FiST that they have stage 3 by COBB and it was putting in the mid 200's at the wheels.

Generally speaking, comparably modified Fiesta's put down around 220whp/285wtq on a Dynojet and the Focus does around 270whp/350wtq. All I can really say is that on this day, on this dyno, this is what I ended up with.

Time to go dyno-shopping...[hihi]

Haha, that's not me as I'm behind the camera.

I spent all day trying to console myself over the low numbers, but I know a few factors came into play-

-It was a Mustang dyno
-It was hot and humid, both of which hurt power individually (let alone combined)
-I know that both tunes still have some wiggle-room in them
-I had the AP3 plugged into the OBDII port which made them have to calibrate the dyno for rpm, and while that shouldn't result in a huge change it does add in some human-factor into the equation. This could obviously skew things in either direction-good or bad.
-It was a dyno day and the dyno was seeing work that it's not exactly set up for. Yes, it's supposed to be able to do dyno pulls, but doing them in such rapid succession was putting serious strain on it. A 500 rwhp Mustang nearly caught it on fire once it was his turn. That was fun to watch.

Not trying to make excuses, simply over-analyzing the situation. I know that the tune that I'm working on is already making more power in the FoST and that I still have a long ways left to go with it, so I spent about half of the day reading and over-analyzing different components of the tune and established a few different things that I would like to try out and experiment with in ATR. I'll probably take it out for a few hours later on today, but I'm still punching in changes from my last batch of logs from Friday.

I also talked to them about renting dyno time, which I may schedule once it comes time to make VE adjustments. If I do then I'll probably log a couple of pulls on my tune, which should show a little bit better numbers even in it's current state of incompletion.

tl;dr-Analyzing excuses to formulate a plan.

Definitely not racing dyno's. If anything, this is a baseline for which I can compare against later. Even the dyno operator had commented that that was good hp for a car as light as the FiST on a Mustang dyno. For comparison, a stock Dart had logged 20hp less-and that's a car with comparable weight to the FoST. Essentially, I have 20 more whp in a car that weighs nearly 500 lbs less, and nearly 70 more whp in a vehicle of comparable weight. That's ok in my book.

I really wish I had gotten baseline dyno's before messing with the cars. I always say I'm going to with 'the next' car, and I always end up saying that 'I wish I had' with the current...

I'm the same way, right after you buy it= modifying the vehicle before the week is out.

Still not bad numbers.

I only dynoed my AWD Eclipse a few times because it was a bit of a PITA to setup and AWD dynos were rare and I had to drive a while to get to one. Before I sold it I was laying down 329awhp which was good for a mid 12 asl and [email protected] up here at 5800ft asl. Still could hold off a Viper GTS in the 1/4.
