I have noticed in the last couple of months that my gas mileage has been going down the tubes. I usually fill up when I have a 1/4 of a tank left. That was roughly anywhere between 230 and 250 miles. Now I am lucky if I see 200 miles at 1/4 of a tank left. I filled up today with 174 miles with the same scenario. I know that sitting in traffic does not help, but I was getting 230 in bumper to bumper. I have even tried switching gas companys (Shell, Sunoco, Mbil), nothing has changed. Does anyone have an idea to why this is happening? I have a couple of ideas:

1. Could need new air filter (car has just under 31K)
2. Could need new front tires (they are the orig Firehawk's)
3. Maybe I should run a bottle of dry gas or fuel injector cleaner.

They only aftermarket parts under the hood to my knowledge are Focus Sport Wires (were on the car when I bought it).

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Here in NY we have oxygenated gas during the colder months. Both with my old car (96 escort) and now with my 03 focus I am noticing about a 15% reduction in gas milage with this stupid gas. Nothing I have found has made it any better, I just expect crappy gas milage in the winter now.[mad]

It depends on the traffic and how long you let your car idle. We in AK get a great reduction in gas mileage. Its cause the traffic gets thicker and your car idle's all the time.
