You could do what I did and just modify the stock lid. I did this, plus the snorkel delete. I can't accurately measure, but from what I've seen, the insulation up top just barely kisses the fireblanket or just slightly compresses. All in all, I think well worth saving the 50 bucks on the RS box and doing this. Also, AEM Dry-Flo in there.

Element, do you think the newmission mod is worth doing? Like will I see more HP because I'm sucking in colder air? I'm wondering if it's worth doing. Maybe only see like 4 or 5 WHP extra?

I think it was worth it. More cold air you can get the better. Defiantly feels better at highway

This is why I'm extremely torn right now because no matter what there are some good options. If money wasn't an option for me, I would have already said "***** it" and purchased the K&N Typhoon and swapped out the filter with a Green Filter or I would have an RS in my driveway right now! However, I'm on a budget, because you know, bills and life and crap...

I think that both the FSWerks and the Airaid are great options, with the latter being even better because you can seal off hot air from the rest of the engine. However, being that you can purchase an RS airbox on ebay for less than $80 is pretty good. It also offers similar features to the Airaid since it can "seal" itself in.

MY HEAD IS SPINNING!! [facepalm]

So with a budget in mind here's my next question, and it comes with a picture!

If I get an RS box instead of the others, can the newmission mod be modded itself to either allow the tube to go to position 1 or 2 (with a hole cut in to the side of the box for 2) to allow that colder air or would it really matter at all?

Also, TheRevPB, I edited your photo...lol

The new mission mod can only come up thru the very bottom of the box. Remember it's a 3" diameter tube. And less Tube turns the better for air flow. And it'll work just fine with the RS box

That's true, just trying to get some more information so I can make the best decision possible! [wrenchin]

Sounds like we all need to put a little hood scoop right above the air box and cut a hole in the top of the factory air box lol

Food for thought- The only time one air box is better than the other is at wide open throttle and usually then it's differences will still be very slight. Don't overthink and overspend on an intake. I personally would be fine with the RS lid swap.

Makes sense! But a lot of what my problem is (and I have many problems lol) is I want the performance and the growl but deep down in my brain I want it to be aesthetically pleasing as well. Will anyone see it when I'm driving? No. Only a handful of people will probably see it, if they're lucky. A lot of the issue is in my head, I just WANT it a certain way and trying to figure out just which way I want it is why this is becoming an issue. I'm just being picky, because after all it is my car and I want it to become something that I'm proud of driving once I'm all done with my upgrades and mods.

Sounds silly, but that's just the way I want it to be done! [hihi]

RS airbox + Mountune or Green open end filter + TI engine cover + ERMM + ST stack (with snorkel delete)..... thats all you need for this car to look & sound good under the hood, plus bump up the acceleration / performance a wee bit.all for ~$225

I think element will have to answer that question. My guess is yes since one of his previous comments said he had to modify his. I think it was digging in to his heat blanket on the hood or something like that?

Yes the air aid is more sealed off than the k&n. And what I changed is he weather stripping on the top of the box. The one it comes with is fairly ridgid and cut into my fire blanket. So I went to advance and got some weather stripping and replaced it and now have no issues. You'll see it in the pictures where you can see it touches the entire underside of the hood. Also in the pictures I tried to show where both of my snorkels come out since the new mission mod is new to you guys. The ford racing snorkel comes out right above my plate. And new mission is in lower triangle grille.

Thanks for the photos, it makes more sense now. I will probably do this. I like that the new mission mod doesn't directly feed into the intake because living in Florida, flooding is an issue.

I remember reading somewhere on here once that the new mission mod made negligible difference....or am I crazy (or both)

Has anyone used this as opposed to the other discussed already?

I’ve seen a couple of local focus guys use them. Basically same idea as the air aid just different product

I just read another post where they said this doesn't quite give any sound, which turns me away from it. I like the way mine sounds right now with the lid off so either the FSwerks or the Airaid are still my top two choices as of right now.

It's too bad I don't have the money to buy all of them just for testing purposes (and then post the results here!). Life is a drag sometimes...

New to this forum as I just picked up a 2012 Ford Focus Hatchback.
I did the mods above and also performed a slight mod to the snorkel. Time will tell if mpg are better. Yes, the mod is crude, but effective? Time will tell.

Probably shouldn’t of cut the runner tube into the box from the snorkel. Now any air flow is just going to be directed away
