Where could I tap in to trigger the illumination wire on my radio so it will triggers when headlights come on?

The correct aftermarket harness has the illumination wire its the orange or orange/white

It doesn't trigger it for some reason, tested it with a 12v hot source and it triggers the stereo but not from the orange wire, I think because it's a dimmer, variable source instead of a switched source.

You can run it to the prking lights or headlights

Mine did not work with Metra's harness on a Pioneer either, you're not doing anything wrong. Its just how Ford wired their stuff.
