Well,
I have been driving the SEL 5spd for about 90 days now, and wanted to throw my quick evaluation at everyone.
Head Liner glue - I am starting to notice this problem, same as many people on the board. Mine will rattle slightly at certain RPM ranges. Minor of course, but definitely worth checking out.
MFT - As far as MFT glitches are concerned, I would say I have been pretty lucky. I have had very few issues here. I did have a few issues after a dealer did a software upgrade, but it turns out he did something wrong. They fixed it up immediately, no harm no foul. I have had a few buggy issues, but very few, so I am content.
5 spd bog down - I will admit, I fought this for awhile, I wanted to think it was all me (bad shifting). I do think this is a legitimate thing now. It is easy to compensate for, I just supply higher revs when shifting (especially with MAX A/C) but I do feel it to be a bit underpowered. I am hoping that minor upgrades, say intake and exhaust can help supply that tiny bit of additional power required to compensate for this. Who knows.
Everything Else - No other glaring issues otherwise. I must say I am mildly disappointed with the quality of the plastic in the interior, but let me explain. I haul stuff often ( I really should own a truck). Mostly musical equipment. I have already tore the dash and/or side plastic mouldings about 7 times with my drum set. No biggy, and the spots are small. I expected it would happen, but my old 96 escort stood up to the damage better. I think that is just the reality of how things are manufactured in this day and age.
I have an issue with my trunk latch that has been there for awhile, I just forgetting to address it. It doesn't fully latch at times (or I think that is what is happening). I will be driving after having opened it, and I will hear it slightly rattle. If I stop, open it, and close it again, the rattle goes away. I need to make a calender note in my phone to have the dealer check it out.
I let my roommate drive it one night and he said when he parked it once, the music would not turn off when he turned it off and opened the door. He said he tried it 5 times or so, and had to turn the car on again, and turn it back off to remedy the problem.
It never happened to me, but I am looking out for it.
That is probably it. Otherwise, I am peachy as can be after 3 months or so.
As for my original dealership, they can suck a fat one
