I have a 00 and the ABS light on the dash is lit. Of course its my daughters can and there is no telling how long the light has been on. Is there any way to retrieve the codes to determine the problem? The repair manual says to disconnect the pick up and check for voltage by spinning the wheel. Great, how fast do I need to spin the wheel?

Moved to "Ford Focus Technical Chat".

First off, disconnect the pick ups, and clean then along with the speed sensors.
They're not the easiest to get to, but any cleaning should show an improvement if in fact dirt was the problem.

While you're cleaning them, and checking the connections at each corner (hub), disconnect the battery to reset the light.
Once you have everything checked over, and the car back on the ground, re-connect the battery.
With any luck, that light won't come back on, and you've fixed the problem.

Reason I mentioned the battery, is if you don't disconnect it, the light won't reset itself, and if you fix the problem, you'll never know.

Check the brake fluid level first.....that's usually all that's wrong.
