On newer cars I'm just curious why everyone always says to just take it in instead of doing repairs yourself?

I know this is kind of general but it doesn't seem that hard to me other than you would have to be careful about discharging and then the recharge levels.

Legally, you have to capture all the refrigerant which is discharged. It takes some equipment most people don't have to do that. The reason most peole say to take it in, is becasue they don't understand the system at all. If your regrigerant is low, there is a leak. And it is also against the law to put more in without finding the leak.

lol, "knowledge is power"

replacing the accumulator and the hose assembly on mine, don't have to worry about the discharge because when I bought it the a/c wasn't working because of a leak on the low press. port.
