So how hard is it to remove the A/C unit from my 02 SVT? It hasnt worked since i got it because it needs free-on and i usually just drive with the windows down anyway. So im thinking of taking it out, and possibly putting 2 switches in the place of the A/C and circulate buttons, and 2 in the place of the rear defrost button. What are your thoughts on this? and how hard would it be to mount the switches in there?

Exactly my thought. why have something in the engine bay cluttering it up and adding weight if it doesnt serve a purpose anyway.

and here is what i was thinking with the switches.... i eventually want to add some interior and exterior LED's, so they would be used for that, the rear refrost, and not sure about the 4th yet.

jus spoke 2 my mate he said ude/we'de have to get the a.c unit degassed first (its best to get that done at a garage as u can kill urself from the fumes and its illegal to let it into the atmosphere. after that u jus have to see if the alternator belt will still fit on (probably wont) and ude have to get a new 1 off of a focus without a.c and ude have to check the tension etc to make sure it would still all run right. hope this helps. im thinking of doing it quite soon my mate said it would help it out quite a bit.

as long as its quite cheap to get degassed, it 'should' be ok from there if i can find a focus without a.c for the alternator belt. jus take off the hole a.c pannel take off the belt and fit the new 1 on check its the right tension test it and ur away with a lighter and tiny bit more powerful car. :)

aw heck! Why don't you just use the switches that are there and just wire up the new 'appliance' to the switch. You have fused power running to the switch, just find the power out signal and run what you want off of that wire.

i thought about that too, but i just like the look of some different switches in there. It will be a little more work, but still shouldnt be too bad.
And on the A/C removal. I talked to someone at tintmasters and they said they have done many a/c removals before. easiest thing to do about the belt is get a piece of string and put around the pullies. Mark the length and bring it to an auto store and get that size belt. That should be a whole lot easier than trying to find a belt at a junkyard.
