Have an 08 SE with 45000km and the A/C is ok. On a hot day with the fan on 3 it is cool, but by no means cold. If on 2 the system can't keep up and the interior starts to heat up. Compared to the girlfriends 01 cavalier, hers is like walking into a freezer and mine is like walking into shade. This happened last year, took it to dealer and they found hi pressure fitting o-ring was leaking. It still dose not work very well if it gets hot out. I have always heard Ford A/C systems are marginal at best. My 93 Escort GT was similar, but after 12 years didn't matter to much. How dose everyone else's A/C work? I am going to take it back later this summer and have it checked again, and I am going to get into a 2010 Focus and see it it is better.

My "04's is working decently...

With most I've used, 3 & 4 don't cool enough when it's REALLY hot & humid, 1 & 2 seem to give the air more time to chill & dehumidify as it passes through - using the recirc for the higher fan speeds in those conditions until the interior is cooled to the temp you want gives it less of a load by chilling dryer air that isn't as hot to start with. I switch back to outside air at #2 for ventilation once chilled enough.

This seems to hold for Trucks I drive for work as well as the Focus.

Lots of things can make an AC operate like this. It takes gauges to figure out what your problem is with the refrigerant system if that is the problem. It could be that the blend door is not closing properly and allowing the heat from the heater core to mix with your cold air. Usually when this happens you have cold air on the passenger side, and warmer air on the driver's side.

If you are still under warranty, then take it in and see if they can find a problem with it. If not, then read the General AC Troubleshooting and Repair thread to familiarize yourself with how AC's work. That way we can be on the same page while trying to troubleshoot the AC. You don't have to worry about the electrical controls since your AC is coming on- but it won't hurt for you to know how these operate.

Some potential problems that will require system overhaul:
1) Slow leak
2) lack of oil
3) clogged orifice tube
4) Over charged system, a rise in pressure= a rise in evaporator temperature. If the system was recharged according to pressure when ambient temps were low- it is easy to do this. Only gauges will tell you if this is the case. Some refrigerant cans come with a LP gauge built on to it. Without puncturing the can you can use these gauges to check the LP side without having to purchase a more expensive full set of gauges. If you can rent full gauges, that would be better so we can check for clogged orifice tubes or compressor problems.

We won't assume compressor issues just yet. Let's see what the dealer says. It could (just speculating here) be that when the system was charged last time no oil was put in, and that affects how well the compressor operates and lasts. If you're out of warranty, then we can go through a system overhaul with you (it's really not that hard but might take a day) and properly re-charge the system.

I live where ambient temps are now over 30C daily. When I ride around with my AC on recirc, I keep it on fan speed 1 or 2. More is not really needed unless first cooling the car down.

My a/c when the temperature outside is not too hot, work perfect. When the temperature is too hot, blow air but just little cold.
The a/c system have the exact qty of gas.
I don't know what is the problem.

How do you know that? (not that it really means spit). If you have lost oil then the 'exact amount of gas' is no longer exact.
