2004 Focus SE 2.0 zetec

Either the compressor and/or AC clutch seems to be going bad.

When AC is turned on, it rattles and squeeks pretty bad at idle, but as soon as I accelerate it goes away.

When AC is off, there are no noises period.

It still blows great, and very cold.

I was wondering if the AC clutch is replaceable without any special tools or without having to remove the compressor from the car. I was hoping someone with Alldata or other resource could check.

I found one how-to on the site, but it appeared to be for a diff engine'd focus so I'm not sure if it would apply to me.

Clutches are replaceable. Special tools are required that can be rented from most auto parts. Not sure if there is enough room to R&R while still installed in the car or not.

Listen, before you do something with the A/C check the serpantine belt and belt tensioner maybe it is a bit loose and when you turn on the A/C more force is applied it makes this sound. Try and see mabybe it will help, or check the A/C pulley maybe it is just worn and slip the belt. At least these are more cheap and easier to check the jump into the A/C right away.
