I've read a whole bunch of threads on A/C troubles but not found the answer I need!!

My A/C isn't the greatest but around here it's not a big deal, but having it function during defog is!

When the car is at idle around 750 rpm as per the tach, and the compressor kicks in, the idle jumps to 1000 rpm. On long lights it can cycle as many as six or seven times. I understand the engine management computer is cranking up the revs to compensate for the increased load, but is this normal? Or is this and the not so cold A/C indicative of a more serious problem with A/C system.

Thanks in advance.

My car does it, but I have UDP's. I agree with above. Pump some freon in it and see what happens.
