I've recently ran into $7000 and want to get a lot more out of my stock 2001 focus SE(SPI). I was wondering if you guys could recommend what parts I should put into my car. Keep in mind I will be going to a mechanic for most if not all the labor so I wont be able to upgrade the engine. Which mods would you recommend I do first? Which ones are gonna make the biggest difference?

a new motor would be the best but you dont seem to want to do that. well look at all post. there arent very many but some people are building custom turbos so maybe look into that.

You might be better off trading the SPI in for a ZETEC Focus (with a 5 speed) and then do all the bolt on's, cam's, exhaust, intake, TB, SVTF suspension, etc. etc.

Short of a custom turbo you just aren't going to get a lot out of that SPI I'm affraid.

or i would go get me a 89-93 5.0 pull that motor out pp head, 383 stroker, cam, intake mani, i would also do a maf conversion throw in some 4:10- 4:56 gear w/a posi and you would have one wicked ride.

you could do all that for about 3700 bux that woudl leave you with 3300 plenty to get a nice 5.0

oh and dont waste your money on svtf suspension. thats 275 bux you could put twords an eibach pro kit plus. the svtf susp will lower your car slightly and will improve handeling but not as much as the eibach kit will.

find someone who lives near you and pay for a southwest fare and some money for time ... have them install everything for you (will save you a FORTUNE on labor!) ... I think if I had $7K to go to my car (or if I just had $7K ;) I would get: an intake, exhaust, header, throttle body, a new audio system (if you don't already have one) rims & tires, and look into a lowering kit and suspension parts. I don't believe my SPI is worth investing in a holw lot of turbo or nitrous products ... It's a great little engine, but I agree with the previous post stating 'trade it for a mustang GT' if you're looking to blow people's doors off ... also consider a body kit?

humm, I dont know what to say. 7K into car mod's would be the worst investment ever. Use it as a down payment on a house, go to automotive skool, or just buy a new car.
I would say just invest 2-3k into it. Around $1000-2000 to boost it and do what ever wheels and suspention you want and leave it at that.

The car has sentimental value. So I'd like to keep this car for a little while longer. The engine does have about 106,000 miles on it so I think another engine will be in the picture. I've thought about going with a new Zetec engine but I heard that it could be difficult and expensive to install since the car started with an SPI engine. Would it be worth the upgrade or should I just save a little money and go with a new SPI engine and some mods?

if your that set on keeping the car itself, get another focus SPI and turbo the mother. suspension/drivetrain/appearnce mods you should be able to get more than enough out of 3-4k

It depends on what you want out of it and your goals.

I have one of the most powerfull SPI's around and guess what, the block is untouched with over 100K miles. I got it for free, the motor was over heated and the head was cracked. I slapped a new head on and it's been happly boosting for a couple of years now.

My other boosted SPI, has around 100k now also. The body has 161k.

Getting a new car is not an investment, it's an expenditure.

What Jeff* recommended is truly an investment (house, not turbo).

I'd go with his recommendation. ~$3000 for car, the rest in the bank.

Buy a bike for $3k.

Invest the rest in a house, or if you're not ready to buy yet... some type of money market account and let it simmer.

yeh I like that guy's idea, buy a bike!

if I had all that money at once I'd buy a bike and sup that up.

but i just get a little bit of money at a time so i blow it all on small parts and i will never have alot of power...

unless that junkyard turbo guy wants to come turbo my car... that would be sweet. I think he turboed his for like $250 or something... I would pay him a grand on top of the 250 to come here and do it.
