just curious as to what speed you would be traveling at in a 2000 zx3 at the said rpm in said gear. standard mtx-75 with standard final drive ratio. i guess this could be performance chat seeing as how you would surely need some serious supporting mods to hit that mark. for the record ive not been that fast in the focus and neither do i support anyone ever going that fast except for on a track.

I don't know that I'd ever travel that fast in any ford focus, the wheel base isn't long enough, not aeraodynamic at all, and would probably fall apart. Lol

I remember reading some years back they took a Ford Focus out to the Salt Flatts- removed the rear brakes and they hit 160+ miles and hour. The Ford Focus won't fall apart. Its a well made machine. [driving]

They probably made a few minor mods to the car to get it up to that speed. I believe it had to do with the SVT program, I'm sure that info is still on the web somewhere

SVT Contours will routinely do 160mph, not sure where the HP vs speed comes into play though...

My 06 duratec 5spd was around 137-144mph at that rpm

Yea, the contour is a longer wheel base and a little more aerodynamic, if I remember correctly my friend sold his turbo contour to some guy, and got a text an hour later that he had hit 165 or something... Wow.

I am curious as to why you're curious? Future plans?
That is some crazy speed to consider doing in a little foci. Maybe something for to test out in Forza/GTurismo [idea]

Drag coefficient is approximately .36
Frontal area 26 sq/ft
It takes just about 260WHP to push it at 160mph

Using a lower Drag coefficient of .32 is still 230WHP at 160.

Depends specs you can find out there but in that general area is close.

JBA Focus Sets New Bonneville Land Speed Record
Ford Focus Sets Land Speed Record for G-Production in Utah

SAN DIEGO, August 17, 2000 - JBA Racing and its 2001 Ford Focus set a new land speed record for G-Production vehicles when it averaged 141.803 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.

On its final run on the fourth day of racing during Speed Week, the JBA Racing Ford team succeeded in breaking the second oldest standing record at Bonneville, set back in 1973 by a rotary-powered Mazda. Piloted by driver Bruce Tucker, the Focus set a new class record in G-Production.

JBA Racing, the engineering arm of JBA Headers and a subsidiary of Automotive Engineered Products, Inc., developed the 2001 Ford Focus station wagon for competition in this year's Bonneville time trials. Working together with Ford Motor Company, the program demonstrates the performance potential of the new Focus platform and showcases the new products currently available from JBA and other automotive aftermarket manufacturers and suppliers.

"It is amazing what JBA has done with the Focus and the naturally aspirated Zetec 2.0L engine in putting together a top speed record vehicle," said Mike Gearhart, Race Program Manager Small Car Division, Ford Motor Company.

"We are very excited about the record set yesterday morning," said J. Bittle, President of JBA. "It is important that we were able to demonstrate the capabilities of our products. We look forward to going back and reengineering our Focus for competition in higher speed classes for 2001."

JBA, a 15-year mainstay in the domestic V8 market, entered the small vehicle market with an aggressive development program to offer street legal performance products to the public. This program has yielded many new components and systems that owners can use to personalize their vehicles. JBA products are available across the United States and Canada. For more information regarding JBA and a list of distributors, visit its web site at www.jbaheaders.com.

I had better not start seeing people posting about how fast they have run their cars..... it'll be instant thread lock and 3 days off from the forum if I do.

I've done 161mph and have the proof to back it up ... on the dyno

205/45-16

And Paul P, you're using the wrong final drive.
Pre 2005's came with a 3.42 final drive. 2005+ came with a 3.82. basically the zetec cars have a 3.42 and the duratec cars have a 3.82.

lmao.

seriously though, that bonneville record cant be right. I know plenty of foci that will hit 140 easy. Hell, A stock SVT on a good day could do it.

You'll have to review the rules for the G stock class, and it looks like you have to buy the rulebook.

But I did find something else about it --> http://www.nology.com/focus.html

You have it backwards, zetecs had the 3.82 and the duratecs were the ones that introduced the 3.42 ratio.

250hp and it makes 141mph? thats a little sad. Speed3s are ticking 160 with 264hp, and they arent gutted.

I see that now that you say it. I even have it backwards in my spreadsheet, which I'll have to fix.
