I just took my SVT in on Friday to have the tranny looked at. Wouldn't shift into 2,4, or 6.

Service guy calls me back today and says it's not the tranny but the shift cables/linkage and that they aren't coverd by the powertrain warranty.

I'm confused, how can the shifter and cables not be covered by the warranty? They are directly connected.

Anybody know where I can find the specifics of the warranty?

Thanks in advance. . .

Most of the time only major components are covered. If the driveline components work they dont care that you cant shift unless ur payin to fix it. Maybe if ya get heated in the customer service area they may help you. Thats what I did with my escort and it made them want to help me.

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with your SVTF. What dealership did you take it to? I don`t have the extended warranty on my car so I have no clue what the specifics are.

Reynolds Ford initially but there service guys knew nothing. Apparently the quality has gone down hill since it was Gwartney Ford.

Now it's at Bob Moore Ford.

I told them to go ahead and fix it since it'll have to be done anyway. Just hoped I wouldn't have to pay. Blah

Check the warranty paperwork alot of the things on the car you'll be surprised aren't covered. We deal with warranty companies alot at my shop and the worst one that stiffed us and the customer ended up paying $2,000 I forget the name but AUL seems to be the best company out there. Also dealerships will tell you that you have to take it to them to get repairs done is total bs since we are an independent shop and deal with them as well.

Is there some paperwork we can get from Ford or a Ford site? I bought mine used and they charged me $50 (I think) to transfer the warranty, but I don't have any specifics for it.

I can look up the basic part # for you to see if it is covered- but I need your vin # to do the search. This should have been done by your service advisor. Hell, our service advisors bend over backwards to get things covered by warrenty. If you would like me to look it up email me your vin# and the part #(s) of the parts being installed.

When people think their car is covered for 100k miles or 5years, they forget the limited part of the warranty. The parts that wear out or are the common parts that fail are usually not covered[read] I laugh when hyundai brags about their warranty, because I know there's more to it than don't worry you have a 100k warranty[shameful]
