My 125,000 mile, 03 ZX3 has the Mazda 4F27E auto trans. The transmission has always been flawless until recently but now when selecting D, it sometimes gives a jarring clunk. Everything else it does is fine. Fresh fluid made no difference and no codes appeared when I checked the on board reader actuated by the trip odometer button.
I’m wondering if a transmission solenoid is going bad and if so, which one of the 6 needs to be replaced. Has anyone had this experience?
Thanks for any advice you all can give me.

And more specifically the lower rear trans mount, that one will definitely do that if dead.

Thanks pbfoot and amc49.
I replaced the engine and both transmission mounts 9 years ago but will follow your advice a redo the two at the transmission. They’re probably due and its an easy job.
I don’t know if it matters and maybe I should have said before but the shift from Park to Reverse is as smooth as ever. Also, I’m now pulling the shift lever from “P”past “D” to “2” which seems to avoid the clunk.
