My car, a 2012 SE with regular non touch sync will not notify me of a text or read it for me. My phone is a Blackberry Z10 with the latest software.When I check the car's settings it says unsupported. I live in Canada and am with Bell Mobility.

Last week on vacation in Florida my rental car was a 2014 SE with the same sync system. I paired my phone to it and shortly after I started getting the new message notifications and the car would read me the texts. It worked very well. Most of the time it was AT&T in our area.

I figured that my car must need an update for sync so when I went home to Canada I went to Syncmyride and registered and checked for updates, only to find there were none for it.

My question now is, can your provider be a factor in whether this text reading feature works, or is it Ford Canada that is lagging behind?

Hi canadianlarry,

Your carrier can be a factor on whether or not any of the phone features work, but let's see if we can get this working for you. It doesn't look like the Z10 was tested, but the Q10 was and is deemed compatible with texting. That doesn't mean your phone will absolutely work, but we sure can try! What I would like you to do is clear your SYNC system with a master reset and then re-pair your phone. Here are the instructions for both:

The master reset and repairing didn't do the trick, but the problem seems to have been the MAP setting. Once turned on or enabled it seems to be working.

On another note, 2 family members with Escapes with Myford touch have told me how much they hate their systems. Their texts stopped being read at different times and randomly work at times. Their systems are so buggy with freezing and not understanding any commands that they just pick up their phones. Each one has had dealer tinkering and resets but nothing helps. They have recent iPhones.

My regular flavour sync has been a joy to use, save for the text feature which now seems sorted.

it is in the phone menu, maybe in the advanced section. I used to think it had to do with navigation, but it turns out it means Message Across Platform, I think.

What is the MAP setting ?

Try this:

1) Press the phone button to enter the phone menu.
2) Scroll repeatedly until SYSTEM SETTINGS appears in the radio display. You may have to select return up to 2 times to find SYSTEM SETTINGS.
3) Press OK to confirm and enter the SYSTEM SETTINGS menu.
4) Scroll repeatedly until ADVANCED appears in the radio display.
5) Press OK to confirm and enter the ADVANCED menu.
6) Scroll repeatedly until MAP Profile appears in the radio display, press OK.
7) Scroll repeatedly until MAP Profile On appears in the radio display, Press OK.

Six months after starting this post the new Sync update was released and I installed it today. Now my text reading feature works properly. All incoming texts don't seem to come from my phone and are identified correctly. Easy to install yourself too.

Well that didn't last long. Three days after the latest update all my text features have stopped working. Tried rebooting phone, master reset of sync and making sure all the settings are correct. ( Map profile on and message notifications on ). My 2008 focus has had no issues ever with sync and still works perfectly. This 2012 is really trying my patience.

Well, a fuse pull didn't fix it alone, but then a master reset shortly after kind of did. Now the text reading and ability to respond to the text through sync work. However, when I reply to a text, my phone bings in my pocket. Message light on phone comes on and my sent text is highlighted as a new text.

So it seems that every solution to my sync issues comes with a new problem. When I get another phone this summer, probably a Samsung, who knows!
