Two days ago, as I left a parking garage to begin my trip home, a "Brake Light Bulb Fault" warning came up on my dash. I figured a bulb had burnt out, as it popped up 3 times during my 13 mile commute home.

After I got home, I asked someone else to come out and check my brake lights. Astonishingly, all seemed to work fine. I drove the car all day yesterday as well in both day and night conditions, with seemingly no issues. No bulb fault notification, anyway. Drove the car around today, and it was fine all day. Made a stop just about an hour ago, and the notification came up again. Sure enough, I caught the left brake light out this time with the parking filament working fine. But 10 minutes later, when I got home, the brake light was working fine again.

Have any ideas as for what to do about the problem? The car was assembled in June 2011, has 57,600 total miles, and I've owned the car since August 2013 and the last 20,000.

The volume / track skip / SYNC button cluster on the right side of the steering wheel also intermittently malfunction since I got the car. (Up volume sticks, backward track skip won't work, buttons do wrong function, SYNC Voice Command starts without pressing, etc.)

As much as I love to drive the thing when the DCT isn't crapping itself, I'm not very pleased with this one.

I would start with replacing the bulb. It is possible for the filament to be broken and only make contact sometimes.

As for your steering wheel controls, it could be the switches themselves, the clockspring, or any of the connections in between.

I'll give replacing the bulb a shot first then. Thanks guys.

I don't think the problem on the steering wheel is actually the switches or the clockspring, but I could be crazy. The cruise control button cluster and two d-pads work fine. The audio buttons only go out once in a while, and it seems the skip reverse button is the worst. Sometimes the buttons mix up or volume up sticks. I actually went a couple months previously without issues but they are back again.

No, I haven't. I bought the car used at a local Jeep/Dodge/RAM dealership (who gives back a lot to the community and has great customer service). When I took my vehicle to my local Ford dealership regarding my concerns with the transmission, they completely gave me the run around and basically made it clear that they wanted me to quit wasting their time. My specific transmission wasn't leaking fluid onto the clutches, but had a clear issue with the Transmission Control Module or an imbalanced clutch causing periodic issues between shifts.

The car used to be a fleet/rental vehicle with the basic SEL equipment package so it's hard to say what all it has gone through in its life before me.

Anywho, the new brake light bulb fixed the issue, the old one was still going on and off. Cost me $5 and 10 minutes to swap it out.

The SYNC issue has resolved itself for the time being, and it might stay this way for a couple weeks, but I know it's a matter of time before that button cluster malfunctions once again.

Glad to hear everything's running smoothly now. :D
