I called dealer to get latches done.
So... Now I am on a waiting list (told it was a long list) to get the latches done.
"They will call me when they get the parts for my car in"..
I am hunkering down for a long wait.
(If i would have known about the wait, I would have signed up sooner! )

Weird, the dealer near my college called me 5 times insisting I come in and get it done. No waiting list at all.

Might be good not to be one of the first to have it done. Maybe by the time they get to your car, the tech will be adept at doing the repair without damaging your door panels.

I had the door latches done last month.
No problem.
Now I worry about the hatch recall for reprogramming the computer
For a few months plenty of folks had no car due to screw ups in ST with the programming killing the whole computer in the cars.

But I worry if I do NOT get it.. later on no one will be able to do it right ,and no replacement parts either!
So I am planning to get it this month. Fingers crossed!

Make sure they have the correct version of the IDS software for the hatch release compliance recall, that was where the trouble is or was. They tried to accuse the car of being tuned for why the BCM wouldn't take a calibration, when they had the wrong software on their tool. Ford Service Engineering eventually corrected them and I had the car, but it took a couple of extra days over a weekend to get it back.

During an oil change visit in 2016 I asked about this recall and got it done for free.
I told them about a time when my doors would not close. It required removal of the plastic covers. Not sure why these were there but its a feature provided for sound and fitment.
Totally excited to have this done for free, primarily it made me feel Ford cared to take care of the situation.

Recalls are free as the dealer has to perform recalls and isn't an option.

Of course, after having done the same boring job hundreds of times, some techs just rush through it as quickly as possible, having become adept at cutting corners in ways that are not immediately obvious when the car is returned to the owner. Others will do the job conscientiously 'til the end. Unless you have a personal friend who is also the Service Manager at a Ford dealer it's "luck of the draw" who will do the work on your car.

I just got another recall for this...

They said they "may" have not installed the right part or "done" anything at all..... really

We don't have time for this, do it right the first time.

I just got this notice, they want me to take a picture of the latches to see if they were the right ones or they may have been installed wrong. What a waste of time.

Sucks, but it's not a big deal to do yourself. Write down the four latch numbers, enter it at Ford's site, and you're done...assuming you have the correct latches. Fortunately mine did.

The reason for the new notification is to check to see if you actually had the recall done when it was taken in for the door latch replacement the first time. The sad fact is that Ford does not pay much for the technician to do the door latch replacement. As a result, some flat rate "techs" decided it was not worth their time to actually do the job, because it paid less time than it actually took to do the job correctly. So they did not replace the latches, they just said they did.
Now the car has to come back in to inspect the date code on the latches to see if they were actually replaced. If they were not, then the car will get new latches and the dealer that claimed that the job was done the first time will get back charged for a fraudulent claim.
This is really sad. It inconveniences' the customer, it makes Ford look bad and destroys the reputation of good tech's who do the job right by those who scammed the system and claimed a repair that was not done.
The job pays the flat rate tech 1.4 hrs to do all 4 door latches. Unless you do this job all the time, it can easily take longer to do the job, especially if you do it "by the book". Not to many people want to get paid for 1.4 hrs of labor but have to actually take 2 hrs or longer to do the job. The tech loses money in those cases, and unfortunately that can lead to short cuts in the repair, or as in this case, not even doing the repair.
SMH...

I got mine notice last week & when I read the details I just laughed. They can look at mine if they repurchase it. Hopefully I’ll hear soon about their decision because I’m in no hurry to take it in for this stupid door latch again.

I got the 2nd door latch notice and did the DIY part, but was told I needed to follow up with a dealer. I called the same dealership that took care of this issue with the first recall. The scheduler let me know this whole thing was because some techs lied about having done the work and now everyone has to verify the work they did. They took photos of my latches and have now called to tell me Ford wants them to install child locks on all my doors (I currently only have one child lock).

So do I trust this dealership to do this work? Is there a way to tell the age of my door latches without tearing everything apart? How many child locks do your MK3s have?

(Titanium 5-door 2012)

Thanks!

" How many child locks do your MK3s have? "

Looks like just the two rear doors on mine.
