Hi! Last week something went wrong with my focus when braking. I was going about 45mph and hit the brakes to stop at a sudden red light. ABS system worked, but right before coming to a stop something popped. It sounded like it was on the front right tire and then it sounded as if I was riding on a rim (it was screeching, the tire was not popped) Then I pulled over after the light and the car stopped slowly, not like a normal brake.
What could this be? Minor note that this car lived in NY until 2017 so the underside is rusted.

It could be that your brake pads have finally reached end of life and are making metal to metal contact. Check the brake pads soon as not only unsafe, but they will tear up the rotors which will make the repair more expensive.

Okay thanks! I read about a similar situation happening to somebody and a lot of people said it could be the caliper rubbing on the rotor now. I’ll check out those brake pads ??
