I own a 2007 ZX4 (116k miles) I was driving on the high way doing about 70-75 and had to speed up to get around a car coming off the off ramp and my car seem to go out of gear and the O/D light begin to flash Orange. I pulled over and cut the car off and started the car again and proceeded to accelerate again once i got around to shift to 3rd gear the car seem to just fall in neutral didn't hard shift or anything. the car wouldn't increase speeds, once slowed down to 20 MPH the car began to increase speeds up to 45 began to do the same problem again. the check engine light came on and had 3 codes but, the person that checked them erased them and told me that a misfire on cylinder 4 (replaced) and a shift solenoid current was bad, i changed the transmission fluid and filter, which looked like the person that owned the car before did little to no maintenance on the car. I changed the shift solenoid A as many people suggest before taking it to a transmission shop. and i still have the issue with shifting I'm thinking about changing the shift solenoid B soon but, was wanting some input while i wait to receive the parts.

Definitely one of the shift solenoids. Are you able to determine which gear in particular it isn't able to shift into? You can give it some good throttle and count how many times it shifts until it stops.

From what I've read in the link posted most were talking about were same but, somewhat different, I've already changed shift solenoid A but, didn't change any of the other ones. Also want to add is that. The car shifts fine when it's cold once transmission gets up to operating temp it begins to do the symptoms I described before.

I ranted in the highlight link as well, simply starting at A and going down the line is how you waste money to do nothing. For instance, if reverse and manual low were working still then sol A was a waste of time. As B may well be, same rule applies. C may do it. Why instead of following the lemming crowd one looks up the solenoid application chart to see what gears are affected by loss of this or that solenoid.

So I went and talked to a Transmission specialist, he said Solenoid c would make more sense for the problem I'm having. He also mentioned that it could be a stator I'm could it be the ring are worn and dumping the fluid back in to the pan?

Haven't had a converter on these apart yet but most use no rings in the converter, they seal at the bushings/thrust plates. The seal is not positive and does not need to be as the forces there are big and work fine like that. Could be a failing stator one way clutch there too. Now the TCC piston/clutch plate needs positive sealing...............

...but around 40-45 MPH which is around 4th gear from what I've read.
Yeah. While easy on throttle, my car hits 4th gear between 40 and 45-mph... Which I do not like, because I cruise a lot at that speed, and if in 4th at that speed, available torque is crap, especially with the AC on. I often hit the O/D button which disables 4th gear. SEPERATELY; I have an engine performance problem that rears its' ugly head at 4th gear, 43-mph, so O/D Off helps me some.

If I ever fix my car AND get a PCM tune, I will be changing the stock shift points some.

He explained how to check the stator, a plate above the pan on the driver side with 6 bolts and pulls out. is that the plate that requires the positive sealing?

I tried driving it with the O/D off but, the car still wont let it go above that certain speed still causes the problems. and yes with the AC on the car's power is crap period.

You should be able to run at 70-80 mph in third with no OD at all. How old school cars did it.

Sure something else not wrong with engine to put car in limp mode? That would cut out OD. Engine running bad enough can do it. I lost OD once with a bad plug wire on a Contour, the car wasn't even running that bad. New plug wire and shazaam back to having OD again. Funny stuff.

Stator is inside the torque converter, you do a stall test for it.

Well I had a misfire on cylinder 4 but I replaced the coil and new plug and it went away, but the car doesn't seem to be running bad at all I still got great gas mileage never had any problems from it. I'm not too inclined on the transmissin, could anything from the transmission make it put the car in limp mode?

Well I stumbled across this form late at night trying to diagnose my work car’s transmission issue and the way you described your issue is nearly spot on with my issue. I know this is a 7 year old forum so chances are very slim on getting a reply but I’ll give it a shot anyways. Jcarter91 did you ever fix the issue? If so what was the problem?

Thanks in advance
