Hello!

I am attempting to install a Tach in my 2006 Ford Focus. I am getting nowhere, though through web searches, my Haines manual, etc, I've discovered my car:

1.) Has no Distributor.

2.) Instead has DIS (Distributor-Less Ignition System)

I think, if I'm correct, I need a driver to covert some signal somewhere in the car to one the Tach can use. I have already bought the Tach, my car is not supported, but I think if I can get my grubby hands on this driver I hear about I can install it.

My question? Where can I find this driver and do I really need it? (And can I buy it seperately? Can I make it?)

Thanks much, Bob.

It is not DIS (Distributor-Less Ignition System).
That system refers to coil-packs, whereas ours have COP, (coil on plug) technology.

That above link is great for swapping in a tach. But since you have already paid for and bought a tach, I would highly recommend the Tach Driver

Another solution to getting a tach signal, is to set the tach to 1 cylinder mode, and splice the wires coming off 1 of the COP ignition wire. But that, is not the best solution.

Awesome.

This is just what I needed, awesome.

OK, COP, got it. I bought the Haines manual for the 2000-2005 Focus (because the manual for 2006 wasn't available) and didn't realize the was a redesign...

Thanks!!!!

I just want to do a quick update to this thread, and get a lot of information in one final post.

Buy your Tachometer of choice...

Here is the part I ordered: (Part M-17361-A200)

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=M-17361-A200&btnG=Google+Search

Here is some threads dealing with the installation: (There's more than one way)

The second thread is the way I went, though I wish I tried the first as you can do everything from the inside...

Here is my installed Tach:

2006 Ford Focus
Tachometer
CKP (CranKshaft Position sensor)
Tach Driver
COP (Coil On Plug)
