My son has a 2005 Focus with a 2.3L engine. When he goes to start it, it will crank but not start. He cranks it for a few seconds, stops, and then cranks it a few more seconds and after a couple of cycles of doing this it will start and runs fine after this. It started out as a intermediate problem but it is doing it more and more frequently. I am thinking fuel pump or coil packs. What is the minimum fuel pump pressure it needs to start if it is the fuel pump?

Not sure because he bought it used. Maybe I will start with that since it is a cheap thing to try and it probable needs changed even if it is not the issue.

check the whole fuel line and see if there is a leak somewhere before doing anything else to eliminate the line

Spark plugs would be next if the fuel filter didn't change anything. Try turning the key on for 15 seconds before starting.

2002 Focus ZTW 2.0 Zetec. SAME THING. I put in new plugs and wires 10 months ago. I'll try leaving the key on 10 secs before starting.
