I am looking at purchasing a 2002 Sedan with a ZTEC engine. It has 115,000 miles on it and has some issues one of which it needs a new crank seal.

Whta kind of a job is it to replace the crank seal as far as costs (depends on shop labor rate) and hours to do the job? I will most likely have to take it to a shop.

Do the timing belt while you're at it ... because you have to remove the timing belt gear from the crank snout to replace the seal.
It goes, Timing cover, Crank Dampener, Timing Gear, Big Washer, Crank Seal.

It's actually not that difficult of a job and if you know how to time a zetec it's even easier.
Far as what a shop would charge, I'm not sure but I'd say the cost of a timing belt job plus about a half hour should be fair and about right.

WHICH crank seal?????

If you have a manual tranny (or even an auto) and it's the trans. end - it's a MUCH bigger job.

AND if Manual, replacing the clutch, throwout bearing & slave cyl. SHOULD be done at the same time....
