What all would I need to take a automatic SPI 2.0L SOHC to a Zetec DOHC engine. Mine has either dropped valve seat or something of that sort in the #4 cyclinder.
Its been sitting since about march and trying to figure out if i should repair the problem or swap for Zetec.
Bit of history on the engine, started having a rough idle back in 2010 after i replaced a broken EGR Pipe. Replaced that and the whole PCV system and EGR System minus the valve itself. Then back this march came out to start it up and it just sound horrible like something hitting the top of the valve cover. Only ran for a min before shutting it off cause i didn't want to do any major damage.
Got it home via a trailer and its sat since in my drive. If you look into the cyclinder 4 thru the spark plug hole you can see something right at the end of the spark plug hole and it moves slightly and thats it. The spark plug that came out clearly had a tip mangled.
Have taken the valve cover off to check the rockers and stuff and they all move like they should. So i didn't see anything wrong there. So i'm pretty much at either scrap the car, or try to find a Zetec 2.0L DOHC or see if the damage isn't that bad to the head and try to get it repaired.
There is no option at replacing the engine with a another SPI if the engine can't be fixed cheaper than getting a DOHC. However i do feel that a DOHC engine will be cheaper than a SPI swap.
So any ideas would be great. As far as swapping to a DOHC Zetec 2.0L, what all besides passenger side motor mounts would i need to replace? I'm kinda confused about the wire harness bit and the axles. The car is a automatic and i'd like to just put another automatic back in it.
Also does the engine life out the top or does it have to come out the bottom?
