Ive found a couple swap guides but they all use the MTX-75 tranny. Will the MTX-75 bolt right up to a spi? or would I have to use the IB5?

Why not just dump the SPI while you're at it and go Zetec? There was a engine and tranny combo in the buy sell trade section for $400.

Sure. You'll have to change over the ECU and wiring, since your car is pre-2001, but it is worth it to not have to worry about the valve seats dropping. If you're feeling particularly saucy, you could swap in an SVT motor and six speed.
