If this is not in the right category please feel free to move it. I'm looking to know in the Focus community who has set the fastest time for a Zetec with an automatic transmission on motor only with no form of forced induction? Most will consider this not the ideal platform to go fast with but regardless I'm wondering if anyone has any times available?

Let's also not turn this into a "why you should swap to MTX thread" I'm just looking for information.

You should change to an MTX.

J/K

I'm in th process of building my motor right now. Once I get it together I'll hit the test and tune and post my slips.

best i could get mine to do with bolt ons was 16.4
i wont post my times after i swapped to 5 speed. :)

but unless you get a fully built lentech or something you wont be going very fast.

No reason for a built automatic on a non-forced induction motor. Weight Reduction, Light Wheels, smaller diameter tires and a properly selected high stall torque based on the application should be all you need to net some great times on an automatic.

i would be really surprised if you could get that engine with large cams and a ported head.

ported 2k mani and tb
volant intake
comp cams serious street/strip cams
SVT header, orp, borla 2.5" catback
massive UDP
rota slips
fswerks tune
gutted hatch.

netted me a 16.4 w/ a 2.41 60ft i had like no/little wheel spin off the line

same verything but swapped my car to a 5 speed and tom tuned it, i got a 15.7 w/ a 2.43 60ft
and i had massive wheel spin problems off the line.

How about a 15.341 @ 90.19mph......in a ZX2 :) Has most common bolt on's and no tune, no cams, no TB and not any porting...a few aeromods, some weight reduction and light wieght wheels/tires. But AlloutZX2 already knows this :D
I'm surprised there aren't some ATX ZETEC focus guys in the 14's...I'll be going for 14's in the fall ;)

The factory torque converter is the reason for being a Dog out of the hole. I know on our 4EAT-F transmission in the Escort we have a 2200rpm Brake Stall, is this about the same rpm on the Focus?

With the modifications in my sig I went to the 1/8th mile track two weekends ago and ran:

ET 10.478
MPH 74.86
R/T .566
60FT 2.533

Stock Engine, Stock Tranny, Stock IM, Stock TB. Intake,UDP,Header,Exhaust.Tune, 2750lbs with driver(200lbs)
16x7" Rota Slipstreams, 205/45zr16 Kumho Escta Supra 712'[email protected]

Since then we had the tune tweaked and VCT completely re-mapped along with upping the gap on the AFS-22's to .060". I am interested to see at the start of August if I can squeeze a few more tenths out of this set-up before I work on the driveterrain.

I wanted to get more input from Focus owners on what they are doing and if anyone has cracked 15's or 14's.

On our side of the map we have had 3 drivers do 15.9, 1 driver do 15.7 and 1 driver do 15.3 (Tygen1) all with bolt-on's except one of the drivers that pulled 15.9 had a built motor.

zx2 cams are already more aggressive then the comp 1's. the manifold porting just match the tb to the manifold and removed seams. tb wont add power just throttle response. my car was basically exhaust, intake and a tune to get rid of cells and for 91.

for the stall on a focus not sure. if i held the brakes rpms would stay at just under ~2k rpm.

Great thanks for the info. Myself and Tygen1 are trying to see who will be the first person to put an Automatic Zetec in the 14's. I don't think it's been done in any of the platforms before(contour, cougar, escort, focus) but I wanted to check in here to see how fast people have gone. Seems no one really invests any money in the tranny set-ups, considering a converter can take .5 to 1 second off your E.T it basically puts you even with an MTX but consistency goes to the Auto. My car is a Sunday cruiser/Bracket Racer so Manual is out of the question.

i don't think a after-market converter would make the same amount of power as a MTX. from my understanding alot of the power is used up by the fluid pump.

auto zetecs have been less then 14's but not N/A

i know boosted one, but not sure if you can get a N/A one there. and when you do you probably just dumped more money into the car, when you could have went turbo for the same price or cheaper.

The automatic doesn't need to make the same power to go as fast. Also remember a torque converter multiplies power(x2) which can make one hell of a hole shot if you can get the rpm's where you need it and get traction.

To respond to your other post, I bracket Race with this car so a standard would be going backwards for me. Consistency is key, but also being a faster car in the street class has it's advantages.

99% of members have spent money on the engines and not spent any on the driveterrain... then wonder why the auto is slow. Building an automatic 4 cyl is no different then in my past building automatic 350 SBC's. Just the parts are more expensive lol.

It's been a while since I posted, just wanted to bring this thread back to see if anyone else has been to the track with their auto?

I'm heading June 15,16,17 with my ZX2. Mods are in Sig. Looking for 9.8 in the 1/8th, bottom 15's in the 1/4. Engine is stock internally, so is the transmission.

With the new TC I can leave the line at well over 3500+ rpm's on the foot brake so the tragic 2.5 60fts will be a thing of the past.

Record is still 10.95 @ 137 on DOT tires 1/4

Tom
Is that all? hehe JK Tom. So far on the two main focus sites I've been told the fastest Focus Zetec on motor ran 15.4, I was told it was a built motor, high stall tc, ZX3. The fastest Escort Zetec ran 15.3 with bolt-ons, weight reduction so just looking to knock him off then calling it quits.
