ok, heres the thing. i've had about 3 sets of 17's on my focus hatch. i've recently been considering going to 18's. i have the tein S.tech lowering springs, and im wonderin if im gonna have issues or sacrifice anything by going to 18inch wheels.



What do ya guys think???

FYI.... rotating mass is bad. The bigger the wheel the more rotating mass there is (the rim & tire are farther from the hub). Stick with 17's or even step down to 16's for better performance.

Ride quality is subjective, but in my case with 17s and a pro kit its a little harsh for my tastes or any of my passengers, Chi. roads are mostly to blame, and with 18s i would think that it would be that much worse. On most days I wish I had a pair of 16s to just have more rubber to protect the rim and to save my suspensions and frame from the beatings.

18s usually are heavier than 17s, but not always.. some 18s weigh like 17lbs, some 17s weigh 24lbs. you never know.. we need more details ont he wheels being looked at

well i didnt have a tire size picked out or nething. i just thought they might look better. but im taking from drag car to auto cross/street. im planning on buying a set of 16" rotas for track. so the 18's would be my more or less, everyday wheels. but i think after hearing all this. im jsut gonna stick wit 17"s

That's relative, some people like different ride qualities. I don't think you're ride would be to bad assuming your suspension isn't terribly stiff. Mine is and even with 16's it's stiff. With my 17's and smaller sidewalls I can def feel a difference.

The smaller sidewalls is what makes the difference in ride quality all else being the same going from 17" to 18" rims.My ride quality is slightly better with the 18" rims than the 17" rims because the tires have a bit taller sidewall on the 18's but most of the time you will be going with a shorter sidewall when you go up in rim size.
